What is Common Admission Test (CAT ) ?
CAT (Common Admission Test) is the premier all India management entrance exam conducted by IIMs. In year 2016 - 2,04,267 students competed for 1550+ seats making it the most competitive exam in the country. The IIMs are the premier management institutes in India established by an act of Parliament. The candidate must hold a Bachelor's Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons With Disability (PWD) categories), awarded by any University or educational institution as incorporated by an Act of the Parliament

What is the Pattern of CAT exam ?
CAT is a 3 hour paper with 100 questions, 3 number for each correct answer and 1 negitive mark cut for each incorrect answer.
The total number of questions in CAT 2017 is going to be 100. There are 34 questions each in Verbal and Reading Comprehension and Quantitative Ability sections. In the Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning section, the number of questions is 32.

1 question of analytical writing assessment with 30 mins time limit to answer, the question will be based upon analysis of argument, you can get 0-6 score depending upon the answer you give
12 questions of Integrated reasoning with 30 mins time limit, the question type will be multi score reasoning, table analysis, graphics interpretation, two part analysis, you can get 1-8 score depending upon the answer you give
37 questions of quantitative aptitude with 75 mins time limit, the question type will be data sufficiency and problem solving, you can get 0-60 score depending upon the answer you give
41 question of Verbal reasoning in 75 mins time limit, the question type will be reading comprehensions, critical reasoning and sentence correction, you can score 0-60 depending upon the answer you give
